Fact be told, many if not all IT managers will agree
with me that issue of “BYOD” (Bring Your Own Device) is a challenge these days.
Reality of the matter is that, employees will bring their devices i.e.
smartphones and tables to work place. They will want to connect to the corporate
network both at work and away (home or travelling). From an IT point-of-view,
once company’s confidential data is out of corporate network, there is risk and
IT managers have no way to protect the data.
Example, an employee from your company travels so
much and he receives e-mails from his iPad or Android smartphone. He access
company’s applications when he is on work trips. Just ask yourself, how much
data is exposed?
That’s just an example, the authenticity of the
matter is that these kind of breaches happen day in day out. In this age & time where almost everyone from identity thieves to Chinese military hackers aims
organizations’ top-secret records, thence it’s upon IT department to weigh the needs
of the employees with the authentic alarms of IT managers with protecting
corporate files.
If you feel to share / contribute (IT managers) we’d
love to listen to you on how you or your company are dealing with the BYOD
challenge, and if you have a formal policy in place or not?
